Key terms
Before diving into metrics, here are the core terms used throughout Topify.ai.
Response
An individual AI-generated answer to a prompt. Also referred to as an LLM response or chat. Each response is collected from an AI provider (ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overview) and stored for analysis.
Prompt
A question or query sent to AI platforms. Prompts represent the search queries your target audience might ask.
Example: “Which MOBA games are best for beginners?”
Topify.ai sends each prompt to multiple AI providers and collects their responses over time.
Volume
Volume can refer to two different counts depending on context:

Visibility
A brand is visible when it appears in the brands_mentioned field of a response. Visibility is a prerequisite for sentiment and position calculations — if a brand isn’t mentioned, those metrics are not computed for that response.
Character position
The numerical location where a brand name starts in a response’s text.
- Position
0 = brand appears at the very beginning
- Position
350 = brand starts at the 350th character
- Lower numbers = earlier in text = better
Character position is not the same as “1st mention” or “2nd mention.” It measures the exact character offset in the response text.
Metrics at a glance
Topify.ai tracks five categories of metrics across your project.

Time period filtering
All metrics support time-based filtering. The default period is 7 days.

Metrics can also be filtered by AI provider (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview) and topic tags to isolate specific segments of your data.

Provider filtering
Each metric can be broken down by AI provider. This is useful because different providers have different ranking behaviors:
- ChatGPT tends to mention well-known brands more frequently
- Perplexity provides citation-heavy responses with source links
- Google AI Overview aggregates from web search results
Tag filtering
Prompts can be organized with tags. When you filter by tags, only responses from matching prompts are included in metric calculations.
Tag filters apply to the query scope but do not affect pre-calculated cached metrics.
