Why tracking competitors matters
AI search competition isn’t the same as market competition — Topify shows you the brands AI actually surfaces alongside (or instead of) yours, so you can compare your position over time and decide who to outrank.
Topify.ai automatically discovers competitors by analyzing which brands appear alongside yours in AI responses. You can also add competitors manually. For background on how competitors are detected and the suggested/active/inactive lifecycle, see Understanding competitors.
The competitors page
The competitors page shows a table with your actively tracked competitors, ranked by the selected metric:
- Rank — position relative to other tracked brands
- Brand name — competitor name and website
- Visibility % — how often they appear in AI responses
- Sentiment — how positively they are mentioned
- Position — how early they appear in responses
You can sort the table by any metric column and use the search bar to find a specific competitor.
Managing competitors
Accepting suggested competitors
When Topify.ai discovers new competitors, they appear in a Suggested section. For each suggestion, you can:
- Track — start actively monitoring this competitor
- Reject — dismiss the suggestion
Adding competitors manually
Click Add competitor and enter the brand name. Topify.ai will start tracking mentions of that brand in AI responses to your prompts.
Removing a competitor
You can remove an active competitor to stop tracking it. This moves it to the inactive state. Removing a competitor does not delete historical data.
Competitor limits
The number of active competitors you can track depends on your plan — see Billing and plans or the pricing page for current limits.
FAQ
Can I add competitors that AI hasn’t mentioned yet?
Yes. From Preferences > Competitors > Add competitor, type the brand name and Topify will start watching for it in every response we collect going forward. This is useful for emerging competitors or adjacent-category brands you want to monitor before they become AI-visible.
Does removing a competitor delete its history?
No. Removing a competitor moves it to the inactive state — it stops accumulating new metrics and no longer appears on the overview dashboard, but its historical data is preserved. You can reactivate it later if you change your mind.
Do suggested competitors count toward my plan limit?
No. Only active competitors count. Suggestions sit outside the limit until you confirm them.
